LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A 22-year-old Lafayette man is facing charges of attempted second degree murder after he allegedly tried to run over his girlfriend, taking his vehicle off road in order to try to hit her.

Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said the 26-year-old victim and her boyfriend were having an argument Saturday afternoon at about 2:48 p.m. As she was trying to run away to a nearby business on Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Joshua Broussard pursued her in his car.

"Witnesses said [Broussard] drove over curbs, bushes, and in areas not designed for vehicle travel in an attempt to strike the victim," Mouton said.

The victim received only minor injuries, Mouton said.
