The company said the grant will help to develop a low-cost and simple instrument that can be used directly in the doctor's office.

Company officials said in a statement the instrument will assist physicians in making important decisions on the proper treatment of a patient's cancer through a blood test.

The Advocate reports the contract is being awarded through the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Completion of the contract will permit BioFluidica to compete for a $1 million follow-up Phase II grant.
