Budget Crisis Averted
Republicans and Democrats in Congress reached a late Friday night agreement on a federal budget for the current fiscal year--meaning the federal government did NOT shut down. The deal made Friday is a spending resolution that's good for one week, while Congress draws up the official bill and votes on it. Lafayette Congressman Charles Boustany says none of this would have been necessary if the former Democratic leadership had passed a budget last fall.
