SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Caddo Parish grand jury has indicted the 24-year-old man accused of the October shooting death of Shreveport Police Sgt. Timothy Prunty.

Cristopher Brian Cope, of Shreveport, was formally charged Thursday with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Cope is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.

Police say Prunty was standing outside a store talking to a store clerk when a man drove up and opened fire without provocation. Investigators say Prunty returned fire before falling to the ground. The clerk was not injured.
