Cajuns Comeback Falls Short In Series Finale Against Chanticleers
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was hoping to get the first sweep of the season in conference play against the preseason favorites. The Cajuns were able to get an early lead but it didn't last long as Coastal Carolina got 3 runs on 3 hits to take the lead and the late comeback wasn't enough. The Cajuns move to 22-28 overall and 10-14 in conference play with the loss.
The Cajuns were able to take the lead in the first inning when Hayden Cantrelle scored on an RBI ground out by Orynn Veillon. The Chanticleers would take the lead in the bottom of the 1st on a sacrifice fly and they would add another run on an RBI double. The Chanticleers added 2 more runs in the 3rd inning to go up 5-1. The Cajuns would climb back into the game in the top of the 4th thanks to Daniel Lahare's solo home run, Cantrelle's sacrifice fly, and Todd Lott's RBI single to make it 5-4.
The Chanticleers started to pull away in the the bottom of the 4th inning as they added 3 more runs to their lead to a 3-run home run. They also added two more in the bottom of the 5th inning on an RBI single and their lead ballooned to 10-4. The Cajuns would start their comeback in the 6th inning when Hunter Kasuls scored on Veillon's RBI ground out. The Cajuns added another run in the top of the 7th on an RBI ground out to make it 10-6.
The Chanticleers added a run in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI single to make it 11-6. The Cajuns biggest push came in the 8th inning when two scored on a wild pitch and Lahare hit an RBI single, his 4th hit of the game to score Handsome Monica scored. That's all the Cajuns could muster in the inning and their comeback fell short in the series finale.
