TERRYTOWN, La. (AP) — A car slammed into a private school classroom in suburban New Orleans and injured six children, one critically.

Children's Hospital spokeswoman Cathleen Randon said a 10-year-old boy was in critical condition and a 9-year-old girl was in guarded condition following Wednesday's accident.

Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman John Fortunato said four children were taken to other area hospitals.

Fortunato said all six were playing in the room when 32-year-old Islam Jamleh Hamed, of Harvey, pulled up at a parking space facing the classroom. He said the driver told investigators she thought she had hit the brake while trying to park to drop off one of her children.

Fortunato said she was cited with negligent injury.
