Spokesperson Byron Henderson says the state allows for an exemption of fifty percent of education expenses per child and up to $5000. Henderson says the deduction applies to anything that is required by the school for the student's education such as tuition, uniforms and school supplies. He says you have to be able to claim the student as a dependent on your Louisiana state taxes. Henderson says more information can be found at the state department of revenue's website. He says it's important to remember that the deduction does not apply to extracurricular school activities.
