Since 1995, Caddo Parish has been the location of Chimp Haven, the world's largest chimp sanctuary, and a landing place for long term care of chimpanzees. Some of the chimps who currently reside there were used in biomedical research, for entertainment purposes, or even for pet trade.

The 200-acre sanctuary, which has housed over 300 chimps in the past, is located at 13600 Chimpanzee Place in Keithville. Almost 300 chimps are current residents, living in the beautiful natural habitat of the Eddie D. Jones Nature Park. In the fall of 2018, Chimp Haven became the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the United States to open to the public, which hardly ever happens at places like this. They only have 4 days a year that you can actually visit the sanctuary, and one of them is Saturday, March 14th.

Admission for Chimpanzee Discovery Day is $10 for visitors 6 and older, and free for children 5 and younger. No reservations are required, so take the family out and support this amazing cause right here in our beautiful Louisiana! Donations will also be accepted at the gate for the chimps: New or gently used stuffed animals (please no metal parts or bean filling) and fruit or fruit nut mixes. If you would like to purchase your tickets in advance, here is the link.

New events have been added this year as well, the Chimp Chat & Chew will take place March 13 and April 24, Brunch in the Wild will be on May 29 and Sept. 25, and Chimp Life Photography Experience is on April 2 and Sept. 10.
