CO Detectors & Layaways Included in Tax Holiday
Hurricane season begins Saturday, June 1st, and residents can get prepared by shopping and not paying state sales tax this weekend, on purchases OR layaways. That's right! Layaways!
There are some very useful items included in the list, and you CAN put your purchases on layaway if you don't have the cash on hand right now, according to the Louisiana Department of Revenue's website.
Certain items purchased today and tomorrow are exempt from the state's 4% sales tax: batteries, flashlights, coolers, carbon monoxide detectors, plywood, generators, gas tanks and other items residents purchase in preparation for the upcoming hurricane season. For a complete list, visit the LDOR website.
The program allows for the first $1500 of each eligible item to be exempt from the 4% state sales tax. Local sales tax still applies to the purchase.
