Davis Shines But Hornets Lose To Lakers
The New Orleans Hornets competed Tuesday night, but were ultimately out dueled by the Los Angeles Lakers 104-96.
Kobe Bryant struggled through three quarters, only scoring 5 points. The 4th quarter was a different story as he scored 25, propelling his team to a victory. Down the stretch, it wasn't a lack of effort from New Orleans, it was simply Bryant hitting great shots.
Eric Gordon scored 22 to lead the Hornets, but continues to struggle in the second half of games. He committed several crucial turnovers late, hurting the Hornets chances of an upset.
Greivis Vasquez chipped in a double-double for New Orleans (11 points, 11 assists), while Ryan Anderson came off the pine to score 14.
Hornets Rookie Anthony Davis (pictured) balled, finishing with 18 points, 14 rebounds 4 steals, 2 assists, and 1 block, registering his 19th double-double of the season.
"He just fights," said coach Monty Williams. "He's about as coachable as anybody I've ever been around, and that's why he's gonna be a really good player someday."
Davis is a pretty good player today as a young 20-year old. The Hornets, soon to be Pelicans, are hoping he can be a great player. His growth from the beginning of the season to now is evident. The immense potential within Davis is exciting, but all potential means is that you haven't done it yet. It'll be an important offseason for Davis, who plans on taking two weeks off, but spending the rest of his time working with the Pelican coaching staff on his game.
However, the offseason hasn't begun yet for New Orleans. With four games left on the schedule, the Hornets hope to seize several victories before beginning the Pelicans era.
Next up, a matchup in Sacramento tonight versus the Kings. Tip-off is set for 9:00.
