Early Voting Beginning For Louisiana’s Congressional Runoff

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Voters across New Orleans and other parts of southeastern Louisiana can begin casting their ballots Saturday in the April 24 runoff election to fill a vacant U.S. House seat.

The 2nd District position is open because Democratic congressman Cedric Richmond left to work for President Joe Biden after he was reelected.

Troy Carter and Karen Carter Peterson are competing for the position.

Both are Democratic state senators from New Orleans and were the top two vote-getters in the March primary.

The weeklong early voting period opens Saturday and continues through April 17, except on Sunday.

The district extends from New Orleans along the Mississippi River into Baton Rouge.
