Edwards Vetoes Bills From Regular Legislative Session Today

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. John Bel Edwards has vetoed three bills governing construction financing, state worker pay raises and corrections facilities.

The governor's office released the vetoes Sunday, involving legislation from the regular session that ended earlier this month.

Edwards scrapped a bill to provide financing for the state construction budget. A new construction budget and companion financing bill are being considered in the special legislative session.

A second vetoed measure would place limits on pay raises doled out by public officials after an election and before an inauguration. Edwards signed similar restrictions into law and said Rep. Tony Bacala's proposal was unnecessary.

The third veto rejected a bill to remove an accreditation requirement for pretrial diversion facilities, for people to avoid prison.
