The Innocence Project freed a wrongly convicted Louisiana man who recently made quite an impression on the May 22 episode of NBC's 'America's Got Talent' television show. Archie Williams auditioned for the talent competition with Elton John's classic 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me', which you can see below.

The 59 year old Williams was incarcerated at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. He was falsely accused of the rape and stabbing of a woman in the Hundred Oaks neighborhood of Baton Rouge in 1983. He was exonerated in March 2019, and told his whole story to the incredulous judges on the show.

After his audition, which left the judges in tears, Williams received a call from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, who's 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour' was supposed to make a stop in New Orleans in June, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus epidemic. Williams told the Advocate Elton John called with his critique of the audition, and "He told me this is the best performance he ever saw that was done with one of his songs. He gave me an invitation to come to his show and sing that song when he comes to the United States." Williams now lives in New Orleans, but is staying with relatives in Long Beach, California while filming of the show is going on.

We are always happy to support our Louisiana folks on talent competitions, so good luck, Mr Williams, and tell the Rocket Man we said hi.
