You hear these stories when you watch the TV show Botched and you wonder how it happens. A Florida woman was accused of posing as a licensed plastic surgeon and she now faces charges after one of her patients says the nose job she performed left him disfigured, according to the Miami Herald.

Alcalira Jimenez De Rodriguez, 56, was working at the Millennium Anti-Aging and Surgery Center in Doral, according to police. Police received a complaint about Jimenez De Rodriguez in February from Vincenzo Zurlo, an alleged victim.

Zurlo told WTVJ that he had a rhinoplasty done with Jimenez De Rodriguez. Zurlo said he was awake during the entire procedure. He said his nose didn’t heal correctly and he agreed to let her do a second operation to fix it in May 2020, but that was also unsuccessful. The red flag for Zurlo was when Jimenez De Rodriguez used another doctor’s name on his pain prescription. Unfortunately, Zurlo paid $2,800 for the surgeries, according to Tampa Bay Times.

After working with the Florida Department of Health, Doral Police confirmed Jimenez De Rodriguez wasn't licensed. Police later had an undercover agent meet with Jimenez De Rodriguez for a consultation about a medical treatment, according to WTVJ.

Jimenez De Rodriguez was arrested by the Doral Police in the middle of an operation of a different patient on Thursday, according to the Miami Herald. She faces charges of practicing medicine without a license and resisting arrest.

Don't let something like this happen to you. Before you make your decision on a plastic surgeon, make sure you do your research. Ask friends and family for recommendations, read the reviews, check the qualifications, ask if the surgeon is affiliated with a hospital, and always listen to your gut.
