NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Retired New Orleans Archbishop Philip Hannan, who has been in declining health, has been admitted to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath.

A news release from Archbishop Gregory Aymond says that the 97-year-old Hannan was hospitalized Sunday night, and remained in the hospital on Monday. Aymond says Hannan was resting comfortably.

Hannan, who had been bedridden with pneumonia for more than a week, is expected to be released following treatment and could return to his Covington home on Tuesday.
