Former Saints Backup Quarterback Luke McCown Announces Retirement
Luke McCown was the last person to start a regular season game at quarterback for the Saints besides Drew Brees since 2015.
McCown made it 14 seasons in the NFL, and has decided to hangup his cleats. He spent three years with the Saints as the top backup to Brees from 2013-16.
You may remember his now infamous Verizon commercial. Everyone thought it was funny, until Brees was injured later that season...
McCown was a fourth round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech in 2004. His career started with the Cleveland Browns. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Atlanta Falcons. The Saints passed on signing McCown in 2017, opting to bring back Chase Daniel as the top backup to Brees.
McCown spentthe 2017 preseason with the Cowboys, but failed to make the team. He has been a free agent since.
Luke's older brother Josh is currently the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.
