In a news release received from a public relations firm, Lafayette's former school superintendent Donald Aguillard is running for office.

According to the statement, Dr. Aguillard will be running for the District 9 seat on the Lafayette Parish School Board.

Aguillard tells KPEL he has decades of experience, and he wants students in the Lafayette Parish School System to perform even better.

He says he believes he can make that happen by serving on the Board. He says he has much insight into the needs of the district.

Dr. Aguillard says,

My skills and experience as an educator, administrator and former superintendent, as well as my demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving ability, have prepared me for this District 9 school board member position.

The seat that Dr. Auillard is running for is currently represented by Jeremy Hidalgo.

Dr. Aguillard retired by the position of Superintendent of the Lafayette Parish Public School System on May 17.

Jeremy Hidalgo will be running for a seat on the Lafayette Council.
