WASHINGTON (AP) — The CIA knew it was taking a chance, but in the first years after the September Eleventh terror attacks, agents got some Guantanamo Bay prisoners to become double agents who would help the U.S. kill terrorists overseas.

That's what some current and former U.S. officials are saying. Officials say for their cooperation, the prisoners were promised freedom, safety for their families and millions of dollars.
