Nick Gautreaux, Commissioner of the State Office of Motor Vehicles, says rumors that his department has stopped sending renewal notices to Louisiana motorists are NOT true. He does say there was a glitch in a new software system used to verify addresses which prevented many motorists from getting a renewal notice. Gautreaux says they put a hold on any notices where the address could not be verified in order to protect Louisiana drivers from potential identity theft. He says if you're not sure, or you haven't gotten your notice there are steps you can take. Gautreaux says drivers are still responsible to make sure their tags are up to date and not wait until they are pulled over and possibly given a ticket.
