Facing a revenue shortfall of over a billion dollars for the fiscal year that starts in July, the Jindal Administration will propose using some non-recurring dollars to plug gaps in the budget.

Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater says it's not something they WANT to do, but it may be necessary. Rainwater says the plan is not to raid the state's

, also known as the Rainy Day Fund. He says ideas like selling leveraged assets and some state properties would be possible sources of one-time dollars, but he can't say for sure. Rainwater says the Jindal Administration has made strides in stream- lining government, down-sizing state agencies and eliminating redundant state jobs. He says using one-time money this year will be a stop-gap, to let that continue.
