Our nation is in a time of struggle and racial unrest. With the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests and riots and the renewed debate of taking a knee during the nation anthem following Saints Quarterback Drew Brees' comments earlier in the week, racial issues are being talked about and dealt with in a whole new way.

This got me thinking about some of the greatest movies I have ever seen - movies that dealt with racial issues. Sports movies, historical movies, fictional movies - they all came to mind as I started thinking of movies that best taught lessons dealing with such a sensitive subject.

Many of these movies I will list below are great for watching with the whole family, and for reinforcing to your children how we should all treat each other - with love and respect. Others are not as family friendly but they are designed to show us horrible moments in our history so that we do not repeat them.

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

As a history buff, that is a phrase that has stuck with me from the moment I heard it. I learn most from watching historical movies and documentaries because I can see what has worked and what has not worked.

As we deal with this difficult time, I pray that we can focus on what unites us and not what divides us. I also pray that we can listen to and learn from one another to make sure we do not keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Check out my list of movies below. Then, let me know what movies are on your list.
