A helicopter crash in Intracoastal City claimed the life of one pilot today. The man who died was the only person on board.

The wreckage and downed aircraft were found in a field less than 200 yards from the Bristow Heliport around 9 a.m. Friday morning.

The Bristow Group out of Houston confirms it was one of their pilots from Texas, but his identity is being withheld. It's being reported that witnesses near the heliport thought fog may have played a factor in the crash.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Ron Sonnier says the helicopter took off from a local heliport on a test flight.  The crash is under investigation.

The website for the Bristow Group says that they are,

the leading provider of helicopter services to the worldwide offshore energy industry based on the number of aircraft operated, and one of two helicopter service providers to the offshore energy industry with global operations.
