History Is Not On The Astros Side In This World Series
Jay Walker said it best with his title on the game two recap article, "Nationals Blast Astros Into Orbit for 2-0 Series Lead."
The Astros lost with their two best pitchers on the mound, the two guys who are top Cy-Young candidates this season in the American League.
Now, the guys on the other side were no slouches in their own right in Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg but taking out Cole and Verlander the way they did was impressive.
The last time a pair of 20 game-winners lost the first two games of a World Series was way back in 1965 when Sandy Kouxaf and Don Drysdale lost the first two games of the series to the Minnesota Twins on the road. The Dodgers would come back to win that series in seven games as Koufax pitched a three-hit shutout on a miraculous two days rest. Something like that's unheard of nowadays.
So, the question remains has anyone ever come back from losing the first two games at home in a World Series before? The answer is, yes it's happened three times.
The first time was in the 1985 World Series where the Kansas City Royals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals.
You didn't have to wait too long to see the next one which happened in 1986 as the Miracle Mets shocked the world in game six and then completed the comeback against the Boston Red Sox in game seven.
The last time it happened was in 1996 with the New York Yankees as they began their dynasty by beating the Atlanta Braves in six games.
We'll see if the 2019 Astros have what it takes to be part of history.
