The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has a new vice-president, and it's a name familiar to us here in Acadiana.

Holly Boffy of Lafayette, who just won re-election in November, was chosen by fellow BESE members for the leadership position. The new president voted to succeed Chas Roemer is Jim Garvey, an attorney from Metairie. Roemer, son of former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer, did not run for re-election to the board last year.

Also, Kira Orange Jones of New Orleans has been chosen as secretary-treasurer.

The newly elected officers will serve one-year terms.
