Houston-Bound Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Another Texas City, Passengers Injured
A Houston-bound flight was forced to make an emergency landing in another Texas city late Sunday night after severe turbulence left multiple passengers injured.
According to KHOU, SkyWest flight 5690 (operating as United Express) was en route from Springfield, Missouri, to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport when it encountered turbulence. This prompted an emergency landing at Waco Regional Airport. The flight, originally scheduled to arrive in Houston at 11:53 p.m., touched down in Waco at 1:45 a.m. Monday.
Airport officials confirmed that 35 people were on board. Medical personnel met the flight upon landing, evaluating passengers and transporting five to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Waco Fire Department.
SkyWest Airlines issued a statement saying they and United Airlines were working to secure alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers, though details on rebooking options remain unclear.
2025 has had a rough start regarding air travel, but experts say flying is still the safest mode of transportation—and it's not even close.
That said, incidents like these are still a major headache for passengers aboard SkyWest flight 5690, who now await further travel arrangements while airline officials continue to monitor the situation.
