The Iberia Parish Council passed a resolution Wednesday night that will set up a special meeting in order to investigate the ongoing conflict between Parish President Errol Romero and the district attorney's office.

The resolution will set aside $5,000 to pay for expenses expected to be incurred during the May 30 special meeting.

The council will question witnesses, but a court reporter will be hired in order to swear in those witnesses. Nine government employees and two lawyers will also be subpoenaed for the meeting.

At the heart of the conflict is the parish's practice of paying for health insurance premiums for the district attorney's office. Romero says no council resolution or intergovernmental agreement was passed or created to approve such payments.
