Illegal Black Bear Killings
Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking for the public's help for leads in several illegal black bear killings that have taken place recently. The killings have taken place from a coastal bear habitat in St. Mary and Vermillion Parishes to Tensas Parish. Lt. Col. Keith LaCaze is with LDWF. LaCaze says that killing a Louisiana black bear is a violation of both state law and the Federal Endangered Species Act. He says they have a good Louisiana Black Bear population established. LaCaze says the number to call for anyone with information regarding these illegal bear killings is 1-800-442-2511. He says substantial cash rewards are offered and callers remain anonymous. LaCaze says they really need the public's help.
