Attorney General Jeff Landry reports that law enforcement has arrested an illegal immigrant living in Baton Rouge who is accused of distributing child pornography.

Landry says 34-year-old Nery Wilfredo Lopez Alvarado was arrested for child pornography distribution that involved juveniles under the age of 13.

Landry says these crimes affect children for the rest of their lives,

Crimes against children inflict continuous and life-long damage. So we will never waiver in doing all that we legally can to bring child predators to justice.

It was a tip received by the Cyber Crime Unit within the Attorney General's Office that led to an investigation with culminated in Alvarado's arrest.

Landry says child predators are just one of the issues Louisianians have to deal with when people come across the border illegally,

Unfortunately, this type of arrest is not new to law enforcement. Just last month, our office arrested another child sexual predator residing in this country illegally. And in the past two months, law enforcement around the capitol region have arrested two illegal aliens wanted in their home countries for murder.

After his arrest, Alvarado was placed on hold by U.S. Border Protection agents for being here illegally.

Landry added,

Congress must realize the national emergency at our Southern border and support President Trump's efforts to build the wall. Their continued failure to secure our border places every American citizen at risk.

The investigation including members from multiple agencies:

  • The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office
  • National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
  • Unites State Customs and Border Protection
  • Homeland Security
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation

Alvardo was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
