Industry Leader: Abolish Baton Rouge ABC Board
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The head of a Baton Rouge restaurant group says he supports a proposal before the Metro Council to abolish the Alcoholic Beverage Control board.
Andy Blouin, president of the Baton Rouge chapter of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, tells The Advocate that eliminating the board would save money by streamlining the operations of the office.
Blouin said letting the ABC office's professional staff control licensing and enforcement decisions also could lead to more consistency in how cases are decided.
The Metro Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss eliminating the nine-member board.
Blouin said he supports the measure, which he said would make the East Baton Rouge Parish ABC office mirror operations of the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control.
