There might be some science behind the possibilities of Houston seeing a frost this fall.  I wrote an article last month where Meteorologist Ryan Hall explained in one of his YouTube videos that the Gulf Coast could see a cooler than normal winter because of the extreme El Nino weather phase that we experienced this summer.

When Will Houston Have Its First Frost?

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting that Houston could see its first frost of the fall as early as December 8 and seeing the last spring frost around February 18.

The classification of freeze temperatures is based on their effect on plants:

  • Light freeze: 29° to 32°F (-1.7° to 0°C)—tender plants are killed.
  • Moderate freeze: 25° to 28°F (-3.9° to -2.2°C)—widely destructive to most vegetation.
  • Severe freeze: 24°F (-4.4°C) and colder—heavy damage to most garden plants.
