Bicyclist Killed on a Louisiana Road in Acadiana
Officials with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated the death of a Louisiana man Sunday night on Louisiana Highway Highway 82 in Vermilion Parish.
Louisiana State Police Spokesman Trooper Ross Brennan says troopers were called out to Louisiana Highway 82 near Louisiana Highway 690 last night just before 7 o'clock to find that a bicyclist had been hit by a vehicle.
According to Brennan, the collision took the life of 61-year-old Darrell Boudreaux of Abbeville. He says a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Louisiana Highway 82, and Boudreaux was riding his bicycle on the roadway in the same direction when everything began to unfold.
They are still investigating the crash, but they do not know why the driver hit the back of the motorcycle. Boudreaux was taken to a hospital, but the man died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was not impaired and submitted to a toxicology test. Brennan says they have taken toxicology samples from Boudreaux, but the results are not known at this time.
The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
According to Louisiana State Police officials there have been 50 fatal crashes in the Troop I Acadiana area since the beginning of this year. These crashes have led to 55 deaths.
