Mother in Lafayette Makes Huge Mistake While in Public Parking Lot
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - A mother in Lafayette made a huge mistake while preparing to leave a grocery store parking lot, and I'm bringing this up so that you don't make this mistake if you have young kids.
I was recently shopping at a grocery store in Lafayette, and while rushing back to my vehicle, I saw a mother take her baby out of the shopping cart.
The baby was in a carrier, and the mom put her baby in the car, then started loading her groceries.
The woman only had a few bags of groceries, and as she unloaded the cart, I continued on my way.
However, after I got into my vehicle, I saw the same woman rushing to put her shopping cart in its proper place in the parking lot, and that's when I looked back at her vehicle.
While the baby was still in the car, the mom left the driver's door open while the vehicle was still running. I could tell she was rushing back to her vehicle, where the baby was, and that's when I realized she'd made a huge mistake. Let me be fair here: I think she realized she made a mistake too.
Had anyone wanted to steal her vehicle, they could have hopped into it and driven off while the baby was inside. I only bring this up to remind you to be very careful while in a parking lot, especially if you have kids.
Sadly, we can't trust those we don't know, and it only takes a second for someone to take what isn't theirs or to even harm your kid(s). I feel like that mom knew she'd made a mistake because she was rushing back to her car, and luckily no one was around to take advantage of her mistake.

Like this mom, I have been in a rush while shopping too, and I've had to remind myself to slow down when I have my kids with me. No parent ever wants to put their kids in danger, but when we rush or get distracted, accidents and mishaps happen.
I'm glad to say that this mother drove off without an incident, but again, it takes just a few seconds for someone to take advantage of the situation. If we all slow down and pay attention to our surroundings in public, we can lower the risk of dangerous situations.
Police have often said you should avoid being on a cell phone in a parking lot, as it distracts you and signals to anyone looking to approach you that you are distracted. Again, let's all just slow down and be aware of the situation.
