Louisiana Residents Eligible For $500 Obamacare Refund – Here’s Who Qualifies
(KMDL-FM) The White House has announced that more than one million people in 30 states, including Louisiana, could be elegible for a $500 refund check. According to the White House, the money was "overcharged" to consumers and should be returned to the people.
The fact sheet provided by government officials suggests the payments will come from overcharges that were passed on to consumers via the Affordable Care Act. That program is often referred to as "Obamacare" since the legislation that created it occurred during the administration of former President Barack Obama.
Residents of These States Qualify For $500 Obamacare Refund
The states included in the refunds are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
According to press releases and statements from the White House, the $500 checks will be sent out beginning in October. But in order to receive a check, you must meet certain requirements. Those requirements are based on the kind of coverage you selected via the Affordable Care Act.

If you paid full price for your Affordable Care Act coverage without federal premium help. You qualify for the refund. It should be noted that only residents of the states we listed above will qualify.
Why Are the $500 Obamacare Refunds Limited to Only Certain States?
The reason the refund offer is limited to only 30 states is that those states used the federal health exchange website, more commonly known as Healthcare.gov. If you'd like to speak to someone about your eligibility or the requirements for eligibility, you may contact the Healthcare.gov Marketplace Call Center. That number is 1-800-318-2596.

Federal officials were quick to remind consumers that programs such as this often bring out scammers and those who would commit fraud to steal your refund, or worse, steal your identity under the guise of acting as an official government representative. Please be careful who you contact and make sure you know exactly who you are talking to before giving out any personal information.
