(KMDL-FM) When you were little, and you and your sibling both wanted the same cookie, what did your mother do? A lot of moms would simply split that cookie in half and send each moderately satisfied child on their way. The concept of dividing cookies is simple, but what happens when the government chooses to split time? Don't laugh, it could happen.

Based on the louder rumblings I hear from people regarding the bi-annual time change from Daylight Saving to Standard and then Standard to Daylight Saving time each year, most of us are in favor of never having to do that again.

A multitude of states have already passed legislation that would make the practice null and void just as soon as federal law makes it null and void. Louisiana is one of those states that is waiting on Uncle Sam to make up his mind.

And while we've discussed ending Daylight Saving Time for a number of years now, there has been no movement on the federal level to do anything about it. Until now. And wouldn't you know that "something" that is being proposed is nothing that anyone has requested.

Adjust Clocks Forward by Half an Hour Instead of Daylight Saving Time

Greg Steube is a Republican Representative from Florida. He has introduced the Daylight Act of 2026. Representative Steube's solution to the whole clock conundrum is to simply slide the current time forward by half an hour. That's it. No more adjusting the clocks twice a year. Just a simple adjustment of 30 minutes forward from the current time.

And yes, you would be correct in assuming that if such a time change were made, the clocks in the United States would be "off" by half an hour compared to the rest of the world. It would make some sense, considering our stance on the metric system, but it would likely just add to the confusion.

And yes, some countries have a .5-hour time zone. Among those nations that split a time zone in half are Afghanistan and Iran. Two of our favorites, yes, we the people would want to be like them. Not.

What Are the Current Options Regarding Daylight Saving Time?

So, if given the choices of :

1: Just leave things alone and adjust the clocks twice a year

2: Leave the clocks alone and never adjust them again

3: Adjust the clocks forward by half an hour and then never adjust them again

Which one would you support? Well, you might need to reach out to your congressman and let them know how you feel before we get a time solution that only an elected official could love.
