(KMDL-FM) It is crunch week for holiday shoppers who are attempting to become holiday shippers in Louisiana. And just as the shipping rush hits, comes word that all, not some, but all of Louisiana's postal facilities, including home delivery, will be taking a day off this month.

Based on data from the United States Postal Service, if you waited to ship your holiday treasures until this week, you may have waited almost too late, but fortunately, they will do their best to get your gifts delivered on time.

And speaking of your gifts, you can really help the Post Office, or any shipper for that matter, out by using a strong box that is in good condition. Make sure the items you place in the box are cushioned properly, and make sure that all old labels have been removed or are completely covered.

Every Package That You Ship Should Include This, According to the Post Office

Here's a tip that most of us don't follow: you should always put a copy of the address or a copy of the packing slip inside the package in addition to clearly addressing the outside. The inside label could come in handy should the package be damaged during delivery.

Our friends at the Post Office also encourage you to remove batteries from electronic devices. You can wrap them separately. Also, if your package is "Fragile," make sure you mark it that way and that you add extra protection inside the box too.

And finally, I am not sure I actually need to tell you, but just to make sure you figured it out, the one day the Post Office will close and there will be no delivery service is on Christmas Day.

You can expect the same kind of closures on New Year's Day, a week later. Happy shipping, I hope your presents arrive on time, and you don't faint when you see how much it costs.
