When Louisiana travelers want to get away to the beach we usually head east. Sure, we have our own beaches which are located due south of the state but the beaches off to the east are a little more palatable for most people's taste.

They also tend to be a lot cleaner and let's face it, the area around Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, and Pensacola has so many other entertainment options it's no wonder so many of us head that way when we have a break from our day-to-day routines.

Besides the white sand beaches and the variety of musical options for dancing, drinking, and singing karaoke, a lot of us like to head to the beach for the food. The folks along the Redneck Riviera know a thing or two about cooking seafood and they're close enough to Louisiana that they don't do stupid things like put tomatoes in gumbo, so it's safe to say almost all of us have a "go-to" place at the beach.

One place that many Louisiana travelers have been going to for the past decade or so is Fisher's at Orange Beach Marina. Fisher's is a two-tiered dining experience. On the first floor, there is Fisher's Dockside. That's the more casual of the two dining experiences. The "other" restaurant is Fisher's Upstairs. That offered a more elegant dining experience.

We learned yesterday that after ten years Fisher's will be closing their doors. The news came as quite a shock to a lot of culinary enthusiasts along the Gulf Coast. The restaurant has been featured in Southern Living's Best Places to Eat in Orange Beach. It was also named the Best Restaurant in Baldwin County, Alabama.

The popular Orange Beach eatery announced via its website that its final day in business would be Friday, November 7th. The closure of Fisher's marks the fourth restaurant in Baldwin County, Alabama to announce a closure. Fresh Off the Boat, Playa, a sister restaurant to Fisher's, and O'Charley's have all shuttered locations this year.
