Louisiana residents who live in the I-10 and US 190 corridor today could be a severe weather Saturday for you. The Storm Prediction Center has placed that part of South Louisiana at a slight risk of severe weather during the day today. The cities included are New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and into southwestern Louisiana.

The graphic above shows the area. You'll also note that the majority of the rest of the state is under a marginal risk of severe storms too. Of course this threat of severe and strong storms comes as the entire state is under an excessive heat advisory.

The excessive heat could become an even larger factor for areas that are affected by storms that knock out electrical service. The Shreveport/Bossier City area recently experienced a scenario just like that so it can and does happen.

When Will The Stormy Weather Begin in Louisiana?

That will certainly be dependent on what your physical location in the state happens to be. But in much broader terms much of today, Saturday will be hot and rain free. In fact, the National Weather Service Radar only show a few scattered showers in northern Louisiana as of 8:30 this morning.

Showers and storms will begin to develop afternoon with the stronger storms most likely firing up after 3 pm. Of course, these estimates are based on models and should be considered as such. But best guesses suggest between 3 pm and midnight for the strongest of the storms.

Sunday's forecast will also include a chance of showers and storms for Louisiana but it doesn't appear, at least at this time, that the potential for severe storms will be as great as it is today.

Acadiana Towns With Multiple Pronunciations

In south Louisiana, we sure have a way with words all our own. Add in the Cajun-French influence and you will hear all kinds of different pronunciations coming out of the mouths of folks from Acadiana. How towns are pronounced is no different as illustrated by this list here.
