Tariff Rebate Payments — See If You Qualify in 2025

Lafayette, Louisiana (KMDL-FM) - In July of 2025, a bill was introduced to Congress to put hundreds of dollars into the hands of Americans in the form of tariff rebate checks.

What does this really look like as far as how much money you could get, and is it really going to happen?

The American Worker Rebate Act

In late July 2025, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri introduced the American Worker Rebate Act, a proposal aimed at sending direct payments to qualifying American households.

The plan would draw its funding from money collected through tariffs, stemming from President Trump’s idea that revenue from import taxes could be returned to citizens as a form of “people’s dividend.”

How Much Will The Tariff Checks Be?

As of now, the bill has not been passed by Congress, but if it does pass, you'll want to keep a sharp eye on your mailbox.

That is, if it's not distributed by direct deposit.

As the bill stands now, a household would get $600 for every child and adult – meaning a family of four would receive $2,400.

Check amounts go down for those U.S. residents who are making more than $150,000 as a family or $75,000 individually.

Currently, the bill is in the early stages and is referred to the Senate Finance Committee. It will have to pass both chambers of Congress and then be signed by the President.

One of the requirements to receive a tariff rebate check, if passed, is that recipients must have a valid Social Security number.

If passed, rebates would be distributed in late 2025 or early 2026.

If the revenue from President Trump's tariffs exceed what is currently projected, sources say the amount of the rebate checks could be increased.
