Louisiana's spring break has begun. Students at LSU in Baton Rouge are off for a week this week. Meanwhile, students at the state's other institutions of higher learning are either on break this week or will be taking their spring break in the weeks to come. The arrival of spring break in Louisiana and across the nation has prompted a warning from the Transportation and Security Administration.

Except for travel during December and January around Christmas and New Year's the month of March is the busiest time for airports and that means congestion, delays, and, sometimes frazzled nerves for those who are attempting to take a break from things like congestion, delays, and frazzled nerves. As you might imagine the busiest airports around this time of year are those that serve college communities.

TSA is already expecting record travel crowds for spring break 2024. The most popular destination for travelers during March? That would be Orlando, Florida.  However, two other destinations in the Sunshine State aren't too far behind with Fort Lauderdale and Miami also high on the list of spring break destinations. New Orleans also ranks rather high on the list of spring break destinations as well.

Because of the high level of traffic and the increased number of people flying TSA has issued a warning about passenger behavior. The agency specified in its statement that "unruly behavior" at check-in, the gate, or on board an aircraft will not be tolerated. The agency will move forward with substantial penalties or prosecution if warranted. So, be on your best behavior, especially when you're coming home tired, hungover, and sunburned.

In other words, the advice from TSA is this, pack your patience because you will need it. Especially if you are going on a cruise that sails in and out of Fort Lauderdale. The cruise terminal at Fort Lauderdale is wonderful. However, the airport in Fort Lauderdale leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion, you'll have a better experience flying in and out of Miami even though that airport is further away from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

TSA also reminded spring break travelers about the 3-1-1 rule when it comes to packing liquids. And they also noted a reminder for proper ID, including REAL IDs or a valid passport. The agency also encouraged all travelers to enroll in TSA Pre-Check. This will save you time and frustration at the TSA security checkpoints.

Meanwhile, if you want to enjoy your spring break getaway a little closer to home, you might consider these options.
