Louisiana Substitute Teacher Fired, Arrested After Student Given Vape In Class

A substitute teacher in Southwest Louisiana has been fired and arrested after authorities say she gave a student a vape and allowed the child to use it multiple times during class.

According to KPLC, 45-year-old Christy Chapman was working as a substitute teacher in Allen Parish when the alleged incident occurred. Deputies said classroom video captured Chapman giving a student a vape and allowing the student to use the device more than once during the class period.

Following an investigation, Chapman was fired from her position with the Allen Parish School Board, according to KPLC.

Substitute Teacher Turns Herself In

Authorities said Chapman turned herself in Tuesday, September 8, and was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

At the time the arrest was initially reported, her bond had not yet been set.

The case comes just weeks into the 2026-27 school year in Allen Parish. Students in the district returned to classrooms in August.

Classroom Video Reportedly Captured Incident

One of the notable details in the investigation is that deputies say the alleged incident was captured on classroom video.

According to the report, the footage showed Chapman giving the student the vape and then allowing the child to use it more than once during the same class period.

Chapman was subsequently removed from her substitute teaching position following the investigation.

The arrest was handled in Allen Parish, where the sheriff's office is headquartered in Oberlin.

Chapman is accused of a crime, and the charge against her remains an allegation unless and until proven in court.
