Louisiana Stanley Cup Bandits Caught After Wild High-Speed Chase
Over the past few years, Stanley cups have quickly become all the rage in Louisiana and nationwide. You can't go into an office, business, or store without seeing one of those giant tumblers in a trendy color or print of some kind.
We thought the craze had died down a little bit since you can pretty much find them at most stores such as Target, Academy, Dick's Sporting Goods, and online. But apparently, the craze is far from over.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reported that on Tuesday, three individuals were arrested after attempting a 'Stanley Cup Heist'. Two suspects shoplifted the Stanley Cups from Academy while the third individual waited for them in a Mercury Grand Marquis.
However, as the suspects attempted their getaway, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office detective intervened, positioning himself in front of the vehicle and ordering the driver to stop. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, using the car to strike the detective and speed out of the parking lot. Amid the chaos, one of the female suspects was left behind at the scene.
It was at this point that the detective ordered the suspects to stop and stood in front of the car. According to the Sheriff, the driver did not stop and assaulted the detective and fled the parking lot.
FOX 8 reported that a pursuit began from Juban crossing to I-12 eastbound towards Tangipahoa Parish. Deputies deployed spike strips near Red Oak Road to halt the chase, successfully puncturing one of the vehicle’s front tires. Despite the damage, the driver continued driving before finally coming to a stop on Hinson Road in Tangipahoa Parish.
“Thankfully, my detective is okay,” said Sheriff Ard. “Those responsible are where they need to be. All of this over Stanley Cups!”
Three Hammond-area residents, Jessie Mabry, Alma Dotey, and Alexis Turner, have been arrested after allegedly trying to steal Stanley Cups from the Academy Sports + Outdoors store in Juban Crossing.
“Expect to see an increased law enforcement presence at retail stores throughout the holidays. We want this holiday season to be safe for all of us and for all of you and your families,” said Sheriff Ard. “If you see something, let us know. Remember, you can submit tips anytime via our LPSO app.”
