YOUNGSVILLE, La. — The Youngsville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman Thursday night.

According to a press release from Youngsville Police Chief Jean Paul Broussard, officers were called to the 1200 block of Savoy Road at approximately 8:32 p.m. on August 27 following a report of a motor vehicle crash involving an electric scooter.

Police identified the scooter operator as Kourtney Picou, 30, of Youngsville.

Picou was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Police said she later died from those injuries.

Police say scooter did not have lights at time of crash

According to the preliminary investigation, Picou was traveling on a portion of Savoy Road that police described as dark.

Investigators said Picou was wearing dark clothing and the electric scooter was not equipped with or displaying lights at the time of the crash.

Police said officers made contact with the driver of the other vehicle when they arrived. The driver, who had called to report the crash, was evaluated at the scene.
