It's another summer bummer as we are just learning that another popular swimming destination for Texans has been shut down just as temperatures are rising!

We recently learned about Jacob's Well, the popular diving and swimming spot in Wimberley where many Texans, and non-Texans, visit in droves has been shut down for the summer due to below average water levels. Now, I bring you more bad news!

Travis County Parks officials have announced that the Hamilton Pool Preserve is not allowing swimmers until further notice.

According to Travis County Parks officials:

Visitors are currently not allowed to get into the water due to recent rain and threat of high bacteria levels.

Hamilton Pool Preserve, located about 23 miles west of Austin, Texas, is a natural swimming hole. The preserve is a popular destination for its stunning scenery, including a 50-foot waterfall that cascades into a jade-green pool surrounded by large slabs of limestone, towering cliffs, and lush vegetation.

Because it is a natural reserve, water conditions are never guaranteed. The Travis County Parks officials do their best to maintain the natural beauty and ecological health of the area, this includes limiting the number of visitors each day to reduce human impact and to protect you from being exposed to bacteria.

This is actually a common occurrence, just last year they closed the swimming hole for similar reasons, but once it reopened, all was well in the world!

The good news is that they do predict that they could still open it as early as June 7 for swimming. Hiking will still be available, which you do need to make a reservation for. There are several hiking trails within the preserve- and you can make your reservation here.
