I have to admit I was taken aback when I learned that it has been nearly three decades since the Jennings Bulldogs competed for a state title in high school football. As good as that team has been and with the caliber of athletes that have come out of the Jennings program I simply find that fact hard to believe. But, it's true. And you can bet this year's crop of Bulldogs are not going to let the opportunity pass them by.

Jennings is set to face top-seeded St. James in the Mercedes Benz Superdome on December 13th as part of the LHSAA Football Championship tournament. St. James is undefeated on the season while the Bulldogs bring a nine and five record into the contest. Jennings is the sixth seed in the LHSAA rankings.

The last time Jennings made the state finals in football was in 1992. Matt Viator was the coach. Coach Viator has since gone on to coach at McNeese State and is the current head coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
