Backlash is brewing against a Jindal Administration proposal for freezing state employee merit raises again this year. The idea angers Leonal (luh-NELL) Hardman, with the, County and Municipal Employees. Hardman represents government employees in matters pertaining to pay, benefits and treatment on the job. He says it's to be noted that Governor Jindal's proposal only applies to the lower-echelon, classified state workers. The Jindal Administration got annual 4% merit raises for rank & file state workers frozen in the current fiscal year, for the same reason-- revenue shortfalls. Hardman says it's wrong for the Governor to seek to balance the budget by punishing the hardest-working state employees.
