41-year-old Reginald Howard Layton of Baldwin was arrested over the weekend after a K9 deputy with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Department found illegal drugs and a pistol in Layton's vehicle during a traffic stop.

After making contact with Layton, Chara sniffed out crack cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy pills, xanbars, oxycodone, and hydrocodone inside the vehicle along with a semi-automatic pistol, which he is not supposed to have as Layton does have a protectice order against him. Layton has a protective order against him from Beaumont, Texas.

Deputies were also able to confirm that Layton's license was suspended.

Dayton has been booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the following charges:

• Driving under suspension
• Possession of marijuana
• Possession of schedule II drug with intent to distribute
• Possession of schedule I drugs
• Possession of schedule II drugs
• Possession of schedule IV drugs
• Violation of protective orders
• Possession of firearm in presence of CDS

No bail has been set. Layton is also being held for another agency.
