KATC’s Rob Perillo Says Brace For Acadiana’s Night To Be “Coldest In Years For Acadiana”
Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper teens and low 20s across Acadiana by early Tuesday morning, leaving us with a hard freeze warning in effect. KATC TV 3 Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo says they've been noticing below normal temperatures dominating much of Canada and northeast America over the last several weeks and thought we would get to see some of that cold weather ourselves. "Monday night will be coldest in years for Acadiana."
Perillo says, as always in these situations, protect the pets, pipes and plants, as well as yourselves. "And if you do have exposed pipes, if you have a house or a trailer that's off the ground, you're going to more than likely need to shut off your water at the outside source where that water meter is, then drain the water out of your pipes," says Perillo. "Let the sinks and the bathtubs run just to get the water out...don't drip the water, it's ineffective unless the water runs at a good flow and then it lowers water pressures."
Perillo also advises opening up the sink cabinets and your attic door to let more warm air in those places. He also warns against turning on your oven to warm your house, because leaving those on for a long period of time can result in a fire. Perillo also asks you to not leave space heaters on while you are sleeping.
Perillo says we should see temperatures below freezing until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. He says we should then see temperatures in the high 30s and near 40 degrees Tuesday afternoon, then another freeze tomorrow night favoring the mid 20s. "And after that, we are looking at certainly milder temperatures...we'll see highs by Thursday back into the 60s and near 70 Friday and Saturday...this could be the coldest we see all winter long."
