Citrus from Louisiana is now in season. Farmers say that they've got a good quality citrus crop this year, but not enough of it. Louisiana saw lots of hard freezes at the end of last year and Joseph Ranatza, who owns 50 acres of Satsuma and navel tress in Plaquemines Parish, says the freeze had an adverse affect on his crop. Louisiana produces quality citrus because of the heavy soil and good weather. family has survived many freezes and hurricanes. He says his orchard is just recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Despite the lower quantity of citrus fruit, consumers can still expect to see their favorite Louisiana satsumas in grocery stores. Alan Vaughn from the LSU Ag Center says only certain areas will be affected.
