
Lafayette Hit-and-Run Leads to Shooting, Pedestrian Hit by Fleeing Vehicle
Lafayette Police are investigating a chaotic series of events that unfolded early Thursday morning in the 1200 block of E. Simcoe Street, involving a shooting and a hit-and-run.

Lafayette Police have released additional details regarding the early morning shooting and hit-and-run incident on December 26. Officers were already in the area for crowd control and reports of reckless driving when gunfire erupted between two groups in the 1100 block of E. Simcoe Street.
During the exchange, a pedestrian taking cover was struck by a fleeing vehicle. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified.
The victim of the shooting, initially reported with a single chest wound, was found to have suffered two gunshot wounds. They remain hospitalized in stable condition. Multiple vehicles were also hit by gunfire, though no other injuries have been reported.

According to Senior Corporal Ashley Wood, officers were dispatched around 2:45 a.m. on December 26 after reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle crash that left one individual with a gunshot wound. Shortly after the shooting, a pedestrian was struck by a fleeing vehicle. Fortunately, the pedestrian sustained only minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
The shooting victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle. Police stated that the injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators are working to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting and subsequent hit-and-run. No further details have been released at this time, but the investigation remains active.
