The Lafayette Parish School Board has approved a school safety package that aims to improve security on campuses.  The plan includes adding more personnel at schools like a safety officer, school resource officer and dean of students.

Last night the school board also discussed the idea of installing new alarm systems and security cameras at schools, but they did not vote on the issues.  Assistant Superintendent Sandra Billeaudeau says they are still reviewing the alarm systems and security cameras as the school system can't afford those purchases right now.

The school safety package was recommended as a discussion item after reviewing the amount of discipline issues at schools.  At the beginning of the school year, the school system implemented a new discipline policy, and they reported a increase in the number of discipline issues.
